Hi Bruce,
I am sorry I never got to see you at the funeral but you disappeared before I could seek you out.
I was quite devastated when Catherine told me the sad news 'cos Peter always had an eventuality or escape plan of
some sort. I never thought he would 'give up' as he was always full of new ideas. I did not see that much of him in the latter
years but used to call him on average about once a month to get the latest news of his very sad and unfortunate saga.
He has no problems any more but Catherine and the kids have a lot to deal with right now and my heart goes out to
them and also to you and the rest of the family who have lost such a vital personality and pal.
I have no photographs of Peter but my mind and memory is filled with the happy pictures of the times I spent in his
company over the years that we were friends. I think about the various boats he has had over the years and the fishing he
did with you in Melk Baai in the huge white Klinker style glassed lifeboat and the 16' Stormcraft ski-craft with the 40 hp
Yamahas. I also remember that same boat with 2 X 28hp Mariners on the back. And finally the Rubber Duck with the 90 Hp
Mariner which was a family fun boat.
I think about the various High-Powered jobs he had in the Plastics Industry and his venture into the retail sector as a
purveyor of any kind of plastic product . The final effort was the Vacuum Moulding of platters etc for the catering industry for
which Catherine and a partner managed the sales and Peter the production. I can tell you that the enthusiasm Peter
injected into new products and into better ways to manage the production was something to be seen. I visited him on a few
occasions and was really impressed with the positive way he went about making the goods.
Sadly I can understand how he felt after all the setbacks in having the rug pulled out from under his feet so frequently.
He really deserved better breaks than he had. He will always have a very special place in my memory!
